Why choose Level Ice

Everyone likes a perfectly level ice sheet – Pro Hockey players and local team, professional and recreational skaters, and especially your maintenance team. With Level-Ice, you can achieve consistent level ice without the need for time-consuming manual checks

That’s why Level-Ice is the ice surfacing technology of choice for hundreds of ice rinks in Canada and the US, and for many major Pro Hockey teams.

Level-Ice is a unique retro-fit system that can help you achieve consistently level ice AND deliver cost savings too.

  • It is simple to learn, easy to use, reliable and robust.
  • It is compatible with all major makes of ice resurfacing machines, and takes just a day to fit by our expert installers.
  • It can also deliver significant cost saving, effectively paying for itself in a matter of months, not years.

We also continually update Level-Ice, adding special features to provide even greater efficiencies and saving .

Most of all, it provides you and your maintenance crew with complete peace of mind that your ice surface is level, smooth and the very best it can be for every user, any time.

The wider benefits of using Level-Ice

Level-Ice is more than just an efficient and effective method to ensure your ice surface is smooth and perfectly level. It protects and maintains the quality of the whole ice sheet, including graphics and lines. It can also save you money by cutting costs on energy use, water consumption, labour, ice resurfacer run times and replacement blades. It can even contribute towards net zero, lowering your carbon emissions by lowering the load on your ice rink compressor system too.

Level-Ice helps you and your team create and maintain a safe consistent thickness right across the ice sheet after every flood, without the need for time-consuming heavy scraping and manual checks on levels.
Inconsistent ice levels can leave lines and graphics at risk from damage by resurfacing cuts. By maintaining a pre-set depth of ice denoted by the highest point on the ice sheet), Level-Ice ensures all graphics and painted element stay safe under a specified amount of ice.
Shaving large quantities of ice from an ice rink’s surface puts quite a lot of strain on any ice resurfacer machine. Level-Ice reducing the ‘drag’ and force required by only deploying the blade when needed. It also significantly reduces the time required to condition the ice, meaning the machine runs for less time and consumes less fuel., and therefore requires less maintenance overall.
The accuracy of Level-Ice reduces the amount of rink snow created by shaving the ice. So there’s less to remove, store and dispose of.
Conventional hand-cranked ice resurfacing relies heavily on the experience of your maintenance team, plus their personal style, with some more ‘heavy handed’ than others. Pre-set minimum and maximum cut levels activated at the touch of a button eliminates that human variant, for a consistent cut every time.
Flooding your rink uses considerable energy, estimated at between 18 to 36 kWh per resurfacing cycle. The more uneven the ice surface is prior to flooding, the more water is required to ensure an even surface. The more water you require, the more the ice is initially heated, and the more energy is required to cool it down. That involves longer run time on your compressor, using more energy and putting strain on the compressor itself. Both energy use and water consumption cost you money, as does extended compressor run times, plus the extended time required to prepare a fresh ice surface laid over an old, uneven one.
Resurfacing blades work hard when shaving off ice and debris on your rink maintenance passes. Since level-Ice’s laser-guided system lifts the blade off the ice when it is not required, the blade can stay sharp for longer and last 50% longer than those used in manual ice resurfacer setups.
One of joys of using Level-Ice is that it does just what is required to achieve a perfectly level ice surface – no more, no less. So you can drive around the rink, and be confident the surface is level without the need for manual checks. This is a game-changer for minimising the time your team need to spend maintaining and resurfacing the ice between periods, especially for major Pro Hockey and other leagues games.
The less time you and your team need to spend maintaining the ice, the more time paying customers can have to enjoy your perfectly level surface!
The Level-Ice laser levelling system can be retrofitted to any major brand of ice maintenance machines, including Olympia and Zamboni.
Keep your recreational outside skating rinks at their best, especially after snow falls. Once the rink is cleared with the resurfacer, Level-Ice removes all the frozen and partially frozen snow to create a smooth surface that freezes more evenly.

Towards net zero with Level-Ice

In today’s eco-conscious world, it’s important that your ice rink facility is both eco-friendly and cost-efficient. With Level-Ice, you can reduce both your energy usage and water consumption on every flood and cut, for a lower carbon footprint.

  • A consistent level of ice sets and freezes faster, reducing pooling and associated costs to freeze them.
  • A level ice top surface is harder, so the ice can be maintained at a slightly higher temperature, resulting in less load on your refrigeration, dehumidification and HVAC systems.
  • Through more efficient removal of ice, significantly less water is needed.
  • The amount of ice removed is less so there is less wastage of water through disposal and melting of scraped ‘snow’.
  • Less time spent by operators on the ice resurfacing machine, reducing the ‘mileage’ and need for maintenance.
  • Reduced resurfacer machine fuel consumption (propane or recharging for electric models).

These reductions also result in lower operating costs, reducing your utility, energy and labour costs, whilst extending ice resurfacing machines and conditioner blade lifespans too.
